Alice Jane Lloyd

September 28, 1931 — April 20, 2025

Bainbridge

Alice Jane Lloyd, 93, passed away peacefully on April 20, 2025, in Chillicothe, Ohio. She was born in Bainbridge, Ohio, on September 28, 1931, to Floyd and Margaret Free Drummond. After the early passing of her mother, Jane was lovingly raised by her stepmother, Lena Mae Fels.

On November 28, 1949, Jane eloped with the love of her life, Edward “Eddie” Lloyd, beginning a beautiful and devoted marriage that spanned decades. Together they built a warm and welcoming home overlooking Paint Creek—a place where the door was always open, and the path freshly mowed by Papaw Eddie for grandchildren to explore. That tradition of love and hospitality continues today with the next generation. Even after Eddie’s passing, her love for him never faded and she waited patiently to be reunited with him so they could be together again—hand in hand, just as they always were.

Jane is survived by her two beloved sons, Dr. John (Caryl) Lloyd and Byron (Molly) Lloyd. She was the proud grandmother of Alexandria (Andrew) Exline, Erin (Erik) Allsop, Megan (Greg) Payne, Dr. Blake (Kimberly) Lloyd, and Kelsey (Michael) Throne. Her legacy continues in her great-grandchildren: Malachi, Elliott, and Jonas Allsop; Arden and Wells Payne; Adeline, Oliver, and Eva Lloyd; and Grace, Liza, Walker, Juliana, and Lucy Throne.

She was preceded in death by her devoted husband Eddie, great-granddaughter Alice Lloyd, and great-grandson John Exline.

Jane lived a full and meaningful life, surrounded by the love of her family, lifelong friends—including Bob and Ginny Haas, Maynard and Marjory Speakman, Dave and Lucy Anderson, and Paul and Vera Bobb—and the satisfaction of her work at The Lloyd Company.

Renowned for her cherry pies (made with cherries picked by her grandchildren), homemade noodles, and Sunday lunches that rivaled Thanksgiving spreads—always with two pie options—Jane’s kitchen was a place of love and legacy. She passed down recipes and traditions to her grandchildren, even if she sometimes declared a dish “just not fit to eat,” though it always was.

Jane also cherished shopping trips, especially with her granddaughters to Elder-Beerman, which always ended in a fashion show at home to show off the latest outfits.

One of her proudest achievements was continuing the legacy of her father’s store, The Drummond Implement Company, and transforming it with the times into The Lloyd Company, a family-run business that she operated alongside her husband and her son Byron. Under her leadership, the store evolved to meet the changing times and it was Jane who saw the opportunity and introduced the concept of gifts to the store. She spent countless weekends traveling to the gift market, tirelessly searching for just the right items to offer her customers.

Her commitment to her work was unwavering, and she continued to dedicate herself to the store long after most people would have considered retirement. For Jane, working wasn’t just about running a business—it was a passion that defined her life. Even as the years passed, she maintained the same enthusiasm and work ethic that had fueled the store’s success from the very beginning, always striving to make The Lloyd Company not just a store, but a central, beloved part of the community.

Jane will be remembered for her unwavering devotion to family, her honesty and willingness to speak her mind, or let you know exactly what she thought with just a look, her immense generosity, her love of red geraniums, and for the kind of love that fills a table—and a home—with family. Above all else, she was deeply proud of each and every person in her family.

A private family service will be held to honor her memory.

The Smith-Moore-Ebright Funeral Home is serving the family.
