Bertha E. Alexander, 79, of Chillicothe died at 5:55 a.m. Thursday, August 14, 2014 at Adena Regional Medical Center, Chillicothe with her daughter Patty by her side. She was born on September 8, 1934 in Chillicothe, the daughter of the late William H. and Hazel M. Colburn Lowry. She married Earl W. Alexander on December 23, 1959 and he preceded her in death on December 13, 2003.
She is survived by her daughter; Patty Raines of Chillicothe, twelve grandchildren, two step grandchildren, nine great grandchildren, four step great grandchildren, two sisters; Norma Scott and Peggy Bailey both of Chillicothe, three brothers; Ernest (Norma) Lowery, Charles F. (Patricia) Lowry and Carl R. (Vickie) Lowry all of Chillicothe, one sister-in-law; Gypsy Lowry of Chillicothe, many nieces, nephews and cousins and Bertha and Earl's beloved dog, Duke.. She was preceded in death by three daughters; Ellen France, Margie K. Alexander, Opal E. Alexander, four sons; Danny France, Robert Alexander, Ernie Alexander, Keith Alexander, one grandson; Brian Keith Alexander, one son-in-law; Timmy A. Raines, four sisters; Ruth Miller, Virginia Posey, Emma J. Chaffin, Ada Bowles, four brothers; James, William M., George Lowry and an infant brother.
Bertha worked as a home health aide and worked as a private caregiver to the elderly and nursing home residents. She was a member of the Brookside Church.
Bertha was the most caring loving person. She loved life, loved her family and friends. She lived at Hopeton Traditions and made so many friends which made it like home. She was like a mother hen at Hopeton taking care of her chicks. She enjoyed all her friends there and loved them all. .Bertha always had a smile on her face, even in her last hours. Thank you to the nurses and aides at Hopeton Traditions for all the love and care you gave to Bertha. A special thanks goes to the Palliative Care Service at Adena Health System.
A funeral service will be held on Tuesday, August 19, 2014 at 11 a.m. in the Brookside Church with Rev. Jack Norman and Rev. David Dean officiating. Burial will follow in Greenlawn Cemetery, Frankfort. Bertha's family will receive friends on Monday from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. at the Brookside Church. The EBRIGHT FUNERAL HOME, Frankfort is serving the family.
