Betty Jane Jackman, 83, of Greenfield, died unexpectedly on Friday, January 28, 2022, at Adena Greenfield Area Medical Center. She was born on Tuesday, December 20, 1938 in Greenfield, the daughter of the late Roy and Reba Grogg Penwell.
She is survived by six children: Michelle Hatch Hyer of Greenfield, Cindy (Tony) McBee of Leesburg, Stephanie (Jeff) Jury of Greenfield, Jacqueline (Kevin) Peacock of Bluffton, SC, Branden (Amber) Jackman of Hillsboro and Marlena Jo (Shannon) Monroe of Rotunda West, FL, eighteen grandchildren: Leslie and Christopher Fitzpatrick, Jennifer (Chris) Kouns, Allyce McBee, Zachary(Ekko Lane) Anderson, KC (Justin) Sword, Karisa (Ben) Jones, Sara (Rob) Livingston, Hannah (Kevin) Lipscomb, Chase Brennan Roberts, Sydney Jocelyn (Preston) Cornwell-Dunn, Jennifer (Josh Marks) Peacock, Joshua (Mallory) Peacock, John Peacock, Ashlen Makinze Jackman, Aidyn Mitchell Jackman, Aubrie Claire Jackman and Airman First Class Gage Monroe, thirteen great-grandchildren, two sisters: Marlene Gillespie and Susie Clay of Greenfield and one brother, Donald Bartley. Betty was preceded in death by her parents: Roy Bartley and Reba Grogg Penwell, one son, David Jackman, and her three brothers: Darrell Penwell, Floyd and Lee Bartley.
Betty was a 1956 graduate of the Edward Lee McClain High School. She worked several years at the US Shoe Corporation in Greenfield and then she worked at the Greenfield Eagles Lodge. She was a member of the Good Shepherd United Brethren Church.
Betty’s community involvement was important to her. She served as Mayor for the City of Greenfield for two terms. She was also an active member of city council where she retired as the President of Council. Betty worked with the Highland County Victim Witness as a Victim Witness Advocate. She was very active within the community, namely securing the land and funds to build Greenfield Area Life Squad a new home that now houses Paint Creek Joint EMS and Fire. Greenfield will definitely miss Betty Jackman.
A funeral service will held at 11 a.m. on Wednesday, February 2, 2022 at the Good Shepherd United Brethren Church, 12920 SR 28W, Greenfield with Pastor Scott Graham officiating. Following the funeral, Betty will be laid to rest in Greenfield Cemetery. Friends may visit with the Jackman family at the church on Tuesday from 5 to 8 p.m.
