Daniel A. Thompson, 86, of Greenfield, died at 4:19 p.m., Sunday, May 6, 2012 at Hearth and Care, Greenfield. He was born February 3, 1926 in Hillsboro, KY, the son of the late Irvin and Lilly Jamison Thompson. He married the former rebecca Hill on June 25, 1948 and she preceded him in death on October 19, 2005.

He is survived by his children; Kirk Thompson of Washington C.H., Mark (Dee) Thompson of Xenia, Teresa (Thomas) Hudnell of Greenfield, two sisters; Athelia Ely of Cape Girardeau, MO. and Avonia Friece of Columbus. He was preceded in death by one sister, Dain Greene.

Danny was a 1945 graduate of Edward Lee McClain High School. While in high school he played on the 1940's football teams. Throughout the years, Danny remained a very loyal McClain Tigers fan. He worked at the Greenfield Daily Times and for almost forty years he worked at the Greenfield Printing and Publishing Co. He and Becky also owned and operated Merrianna's Pizza for several years. He was an active member of the Greefield First Baptist Church in the 1990's and most recently attended Tree of Life Fellowship. Being proud of his Kentucky roots, he received the honor of being a Kentucky Colonel. Danny was also a member of the Buttermilk Boys.

Danny's civic service included Republican Central Committeeman for forty years, he received the Highland County Mr. republican Award, served on Greenfield City Council for six years and McClain School Board for eight years, at one time serving as President.

He was active in many sports activities throughtout the years. During the 60's and 70's he coached little league basketball and baseball. He started the first American Legion Baseball team in Greenfield and played fast pitch baseball for the Penn trucking team. He was a member of the Chillicothe referee and Umpire chapter for twenty five years and on several occasions was asked to officiate the men's state basketball and baseball tournaments.

Funeral service will be held Friday, May 11, 2012 at 11 a.m. in ANDERSON-EBRIGHT FUNERAL HOME, Greenfield with Rev. Ella Kolle officiating. Burial will follow in Greenfield Cemetery. Calling hours will be held on Thursday from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. In lieu of flowers, the family would like contributions to be sent to the McClain Athletic Dept., 200 N. Fifth St., Greenfield, OH 45123.
