David Walter Mitchell 71, of Bainbridge died Monday, April 23, 2012 at his home, surrounded by family and friends, following a two-year battle with cancer. He was born March 24, 1941 in Bainbridge, the son of the late James Weldon and Hazel Marie Whitcomb Mitchell. On July 1, 1978 he married the former Debra A. Saunders, who survives.
Dave is also survived by, four children, David D. (Cindy) Mitchell, Pam (Barry) McNichols, Dwight "Joe" Wilt all of Chillicothe and Josh Mitchell of Bainbridge; eight grandchildren and three great grandchildren; sister, Sue (Keith) Johnson of Bainbridge; brother, Bill W. (Carol) Mitchell of Hillsboro; special friends, Jeff and Lori Barnhart, Tony, Nancy and Ryan Broughton, Gary Grimm and Wayne Mitchell; and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.
He was preceded in death by three sisters, Margie Chamberlin, Betty Jocelyne and Arta Gilbert and four brothers, Leo, Beryl, Melvin and Norman Mitchell.
Dave was an avid dirt track and Nascar fan and he was a retired collision repair tech employed for 30 years by McAllister Chevrolet and 10 years by Sommers Body Shop.
Funeral services will be held 11 am Friday, April 27, 2012 at the SMITH-MOORE-EBRIGHT Funeral Home, Bainbridge, with Troy Villars officiating. Burial will follow in the Bainbridge Cemetery. Friends may call from 6-8 pm Thursday at the Funeral Home.
