David Bernard Towell, Jr, age 89, of Frankfort, passed away at 3:15 p.m. on Tuesday, November 29, 2022, at Bethany Lutheran Village, Centerville. He was born on Friday, September 15, 1933, in Chillicothe, the son of the late David Bernard and Margaret Louise Noth Towell. On June 17, 1961, he married Mary Margaret Hirsch. Mary preceded David in death on March 5, 1992.
He is survived by one son, David B. Towell, III of Cincinnati, one daughter, Mary E. (Dominic) Napolitano of Suwanee, GA, six grandchildren; Michael P. Napolitano, Thomas G. Napolitano, Teresa E. Napolitano, Joseph A. Napolitano, Aria C. Towell, and Mary M. Towell, devoted friend, Pat McCloud. He was preceded in death by his sister, Mary M. (Eugene) Greer.
David was a 1951 graduate of Catholic Central High School. He attended the University of Notre Dame and the Ohio State University. He was a veteran of the US Army having served in Germany during the Korean War. David retired from Mead Paper following more than 29 years of service. He retired as a Senior Catalog Analyst on March 1, 1994.
David was a member of St. Peter Catholic Church in Chillicothe, where he had served as an usher. His love of history was reflected by his membership in the Archaeological Society of Ohio, Ross County Historical Society, Mound City Chapter of the Archaeological Society of Ohio, the Frankfort Area Historical Society, and the Ohio History Connection. Dave was an avid collector of Native American artifacts as well as miniature military figures. He was a member of the Miniature Figure Collectors of America. He loved and enjoyed Irish music and dogs.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at St. Peter Catholic Church, Chillicothe, at 11 a.m. on Saturday, December 3, 2022, Father Timothy Hayes will be the celebrant. Following the service, David will be laid to rest beside his wife, Mary, in St. Margaret Cemetery, Chillicothe. Military honors will be accorded at the cemetery by the American Legion and the United States Army. A Rosary Service will be held at 6 p.m. Friday at the EBRIGHT FUNERAL HOME, Frankfort with a visitation to follow until 8 p.m. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that memorial contributions be sent to the Ross County Historical Society, 45 W. 5th Street, Chillicothe OH 45601, or the Frankfort Historical Society, PO Box 117, Frankfort OH 45628.
