Dean T. Hyer, 89, of Frankfort, died at 12:14pm, on Monday, Feb. 14, 2011 at Adena Regional Medical Center. He was born on Nov. 16, 1921 in Austin, OH the son of the late Russell and Eva Stickley Hyer. On May 25, 1946 he married the former Gari L. Norton who preceded him in death on Feb. 20, 1998.
Surviving are his children; daughters; Evalena L. Stotridge of Chillicothe, Shari L. (David) Spetnagel of Frankfort, son; Thomas N. Hyer of Frankfort, granddaughter; Lauren P. Spetnagel, brother; Ralph C. (Betty) Hyer of Washington C.H., sisters-in-law; Jane Burt of Trenton, Betty Norton of Chillicothe. He was preceded in death by 3 sisters; Garnett Sowers, Gladys Imboden, Louise Hyer, and an infant brother.
Dean was a Staff Sergeant in the U.S. Army during World War II. He was stationed in Northern France, Rhineland, and received the Good Conduct Medal, American Theatre Service Medal, the European-African-Middle Eastern Theatre Service Medal with three Bronze Stars, and the Victory Medal. In 1946 he opened Hyer Grocery which he ran until 1971. He retired from the VA Chillicothe in 1998 having worked in Nutritional Food Services. Dean was a member and served as deacon at Frankfort Church of Christ. He was a 50 year member and Past Master of Frankfort Lodge 309-Free and Accepted Masons. He was also a member of the Chillicothe Commandery No. 8 Knights Templar, the Grand Council Royal & Select Masons of Ohio Chillicothe Council No. 4, and the Joseph Ellsworth White Post 483 - American Legion.
Funeral service will be held on Friday, February 18, 2011 at 1 p.m. at the Frankfort Church of Christ with Harold Rutledge and Mike Free officiating. Burial will follow in Greenlawn Cemetery, Frankfort with military honors accorded by Frankfort American Legion. Friends may call at the EBRIGHT FUNERAL HOME, Frankfort on Thursday, from 5 to 8 p.m., with Masonic service at 7:45 p.m..
