Dorothy J. Soales, 89, of Greenfield, died surrounded by her family, at 3:42 p.m. on Monday, November 23, 2015, at Hearth & Care of Greenfield. She was born on August 20, 1926 in Highland Co., the daughter of the late George and Marguerite Cockerill Priest. On March 6, 1946 she married Harley K. "Kenny" Soales, who preceded her in death on July 23, 1999.
Dorothy is survived by two children, Daniel Elwood (Mary) Soales, Cynthia (Larry) Johnson, all of Greenfield, five grandchildren, Brian C. Soales, Phillip R. Soales, Derek A. Johnson, Wesley Johnson, Erin Sethachutkul, eight great-grandchildren, Landon Soales, Leah Soales, Andrew Jones, Ryan Jones, Ethan and Eli Johnson, Morgan and Reagan Johnson, and several nieces and cousins. Dorothy was preceded in death by a brother, Deane Priest, sister, Mildred King, nephew, and Ken and Dorothy's beloved pet, Minnie Pearl.
Dorothy was a graduate of Fairfield High School, Leesburg. She worked at Greenfield Printing and Publishing for 20 years, as well as Greenfield Municipal Hospital. With her husband, Dorothy co-owned Ken's Dog House of Greenfield. She was a very active member of the Greenfield First Baptist Church, where she was a member of the Helen Barrett Missionary Circle. She was secretary of the Clinton Association of the American Baptist Church, and a member of the former Elite Club of Greenfield.
A funeral service will be held at 1 p.m. on Saturday, November 28, 2015 in the First Baptist Church, Greenfield with Rev. Dennis Brewer officiating. Burial will follow in Greenfield Cemetery. Friends may visit with the Soales family at the church on Friday from 5 to 8 p.m.. Memorial contributions are suggested to the Greenfield First Baptist Church, 125 N.
