Ezra Jay Hammond, 69, of Chillicothe, died on Monday evening, December 28, 2020 at the Adena Regional Medical Center, Chillicothe. He was born on Wednesday, May 2, 1951 in Louisa, Kentucky the son of Nathan and Leola McKinney Hammond.
He is survived by his mother, Leola Hammond of Louisa, Kentucky, one son, Nathaniel (Melissa) Hammond of Chillicothe, one grandson, Zach Hammond of Chillicothe, three sisters, Garnett Neukirchner, Pamela Hinton, Kathy Hammond, all of Frankfort, five brothers, Danny (Debbie) Hammond and Homer Hammond of Chillicothe, William Hammond of Moyock, North Carolina, Jimmie Hammond, and Jonathan (Hannah) Hammond, both of Louisa, Kentucky and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his father, Nathan Hammond.
Ezra was a man who inspired many. He did not let his paralysis define his life or keep him down. He worked as a chemical dependency counselor for thirty-five years at the Scioto Paint Valley Mental Health Center. He earned his CCDC 3E certification and used his training in numerous counties in Southern Ohio. Ezra helped build many rehabilitation programs in Ohio and he assisted many get over challenging times in their lives. Through all of his life Ezra lived by his motto of “keep on keeping on.”
In keeping with Ezra’s wishes cremation will take place and his cremains will be scattered on the family farm in Kentucky. The EBRIGHT FUNERAL HOME, Frankfort is serving the family. Those wishing to sign and share a memory of Ezra may do so on his online register
