Frank A. Ater, 89, of Claksburg, died at 1:05 p.m. on Saturday, July 7, 2012 in the Veterans Affairs Medical Center, Chillicothe. He was born on December 14, 1922 in Clarksburg, the son of the late Russell and Imo Hurtt Ater. On August 18, 1946 he married the former Pauline Lucas who preceded him in death on April 30, 2012
He is survived by one sister; Vera Keiser of Waverly.
Frank was a 1942 graduate of Clarksburg High School. He then served in the US Army as a tank driver during World War II. Frank was honored to have had General Patton ride in his tank on the way to Berlin. After the service he returned home and was a farmer. He was a fifty year member of the Clarksburg Grange. He was also a member of the Clarksburg United Methodist Church.
A graveside service will be held on Wednesday, July 11, 2012 at 10:30 a.m. in the Brown's Chapel Cemetery, Clarksburg with Pastor Jerry Caddell officiating. Military honors will be accorded. A Grange service will be held by the Clarksburg Grange. Calling hours will not be observed. In lieu of flowers, donations are asked to be made to the Clarksburg Alumni C/O Virginia Tarbill, 87 Limestone Blvd, Chillicothe, OH 45601. The EBRIGHT FUNERAL HOME, Frankfort is serving the family.
