Howard Warren Hafer, 94, of Greenfield, passed away on Wednesday, February 4, 2015 at 2:20 a.m. in Edgewood Manor, Greenfield. He was born in Lyndon, Ohio on October 1, 1920, the son of the late Charles and Mae Hafer. On October 27, 1945 he married Gwenalene M. Ward and she preceded him in death.
He is survived by three daughters; Mary Beth (Bob) Haught of Lakeview, OH, Susan (John) Spears of Oceana, WV, Deborah( Ryan) Bates of Mesquite, TX, one son; John H. Hafer of Burnside,Kentucky, several grandchildren and several great grandchildren and his special nieces and caregivers; Shirley and Pamela Stroop.
He was preceded in death by four sisters; Iva Bantley, Louise McCormich, Katherine Steiner, Mary Jane Wallingford, two brothers, Roy Hafer and Richard Hafer.
He attended Buckskin School and was a graduate of the Edward Lee McClain High School. He was a veteran of the US Army serving during World War II. He worked as a mechanic for Standard Oil Company.
A graveside service will be held on Friday February 6, 2015 at 11a.m. in Greenfield Cemetery with Danny Dodds officiating. Military honors will be accorded by the Concerned Veterans of Greenfield. Calling hours will not be held. The ANDERSON-EBRIGHT FUNERAL HOME, Greenfield is serving the family.
