James A. (Sam) Martin, 47, of Clarksburg passed away Saturday, August 21 at 1:14 p.m. at Berger Hospital, Circleville, after a courageous battle with ALS (Lou Gehrig's Disease) and Pneumonia. He was born March 15,1963 in Chillicothe to James O. and Patricia A. (Gallaugher) Martin who survives.
He is survived by "daddy's little girls"; Mallory Nicole, Anna Marie, and Jenna Rose Martin. Also surviving are sisters; Denise (Terry) Kern of Clarksburg and Debbie (Kevin) Roll of Frankfort, niece; Jami (J.R.) Garrison, nephews; Jeff Kern, Nick Milliken, Clay Roll, great nephews; Jarrett and Jace Garrison, a very special friend; Kelly Rochelle Case of Galloway, aunts; Ruth (George) Skinner, Cindy (Lloyd) Graves, Barbara (Don) Kretzer, Albie Gallaugher, Marilyn (Moe) Martin Oliver, uncles; Bill (Karen) Gallaugher, Ger (Bea) Gallaugher, and many cousins and dear friends. He was predeceased by grandparents; Otis and Anna Fellenstein Martin and Leslie and Thelma Orihood Gallaugher, aunts; Helen (Bill) Marsh, Nell (Glen) Ater, uncles; Hoyt (Helen) Martin, Joe Martin, James Gallaugher, and cousins; Larry Martin and Bill Marsh.
He was a loving and caring dad. He enjoyed the time he spent with his girls and so proud of them. Sam was a 1981 graduate of Adena High School where he was named to the All-Ohio Football team. In 1985 he graduated from Morehead State University where he earned his degree in Electrical Engineering and also played college football. He was a 23 year employee at PPG, Circleville and member-partner of Little Buck Lodge in Frankfort.
Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Wednesday, August 25 at the Clarksburg United Methodist Church with his uncle Rev. Bill Gallaugher, Rev. Rick Hartley, and Rev. Martin Denes officiating. Burial will follow in Brown's Chapel Cemetery in Clarksburg. The family will receive friends from 4-8 p.m. on Tuesday, August 24 at the Ebright Funeral Home in Frankfort.
In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made in Sam's memory to Adena High School c/o Shawn Anders, 3357 Co. Rd. 550 Frankfort, Ohio 45628 for the Girls Track and Soccer teams.
Sam will greatly be missed by all who knew him. His family would like to thank all of you for your kindness and support during this difficult time.
