James L. Walker, 87, of Greenfield, went to be with his Lord and Savior at 8:00 a.m. on Thursday, May 31, 2018 at his home. He was born on April 7, 1931 in Greenfield, the son of the late Harley Q. and Anna Mae Smith Walker. On May 10, 1953 in Russell, KY he married the former Vivien Welch who preceded in him death on June 5, 2010.
Survivors include one daughter; Deborah L. Walker of Smyrna, GA and one son; Edward E. Walker of Greenfield, three grandchildren; Alyssa, Gabby and Nicholas Walker, one great-grandson; Trent Button. He was preceded in death by two sisters; Ruth Anna Henson and Mary Jane Burns.
Jim was a 1949 graduate of The Edward Lee McClain High School. He served in the U.S. Air Force during the Korean Conflict as a Senior Weather Observer. He retired in 1990 from the U.S. Postal Service after serving many years as a mail carrier. He was a long-time member of the Greenfield Church of Christ where he never missed a Sunday service for more than fifty years. Jim was a dedicated member of the Concerned Veteran’s of Greenfield. He enjoyed drinking coffee with Glenn Taylor and his buddies at Blakes Coffee Shop and Three Spoon’s.
A funeral service will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Monday, June 4, 2018 at the Greenfield Church of Christ with Danny Dodds and Jay Fabin officiating. Burial will follow in the Greenfield Cemetery where military honors will be accorded by the Concerned Veterans of Greenfield. Friends and relatives may visit with Jim’s family on Sunday from 4-8 p.m. at the Greenfield Church of Christ. The ANDERSON-EBRIGHT FUNERAL HOME, Greenfield is serving the family. In lieu of flowers, the family ask that memorial contributions be made to the two things most important to Jim: The Concerned Veterans of Greenfield, c/o Bruce Snavely, 445 Mill Street, Greenfield, Ohio 45123 or the Greenfield Church of Christ, 955 W.
