Joan M. McKay, 84, of Clarksburg, Ohio, joined her Heavenly Father on Monday, September 30, 2013; as a result of a car accident.
She was born on April 23, 1929 in Highland County to Mildred and Homer McConnaha. On June 10, 1951, Joan married Donald Richard McKay in Chester Friends Church near Wilmington, Ohio.
Survivors include Dick McKay, their children, Cindy and Bruce Sykes of Williamsport OH, Greg and Elaine McKay of Zanesfield OH, and Renee McKay of Washington C.H. OH; grandchildren, Matt and Jenny Sykes, Mike and Brook Sykes, Brent Sykes, Bryan (B.J.) and Brandi Sykes all of Clarksburg OH, Dan McKay, Joel McKay, of Galloway OH, Willy McKay, of Bracknell Tazmania, Sam McKay of Clinton MI, Katie McKay, Julianne McKay, Deidre McKay and Josh McKay all of Washington C.H. OH; great-grandchildren, Hannah Sykes, Preston Sykes, Owen Sykes, Andy Sykes, step granddaughter, JorDan Hanners, brother Harold McConnaha, brothers in law, Robert C. and Anna Mae McKay, Frank H. and Judy McKay, sisters in law, Jeannette and Vernon Musser, Rita and John Howell, Rosalie and John Beers, Judy Hough, and numerous nieces and nephews.
Joan was preceded in death by her parents, brother, Wallace McConnaha, sisters, Nora Jean McConnaha, and Mary Lewis, and son Doug McKay.
She was a member of the Clarksburg United Methodist Church. Being an avid reader, she was a member of the R, R, & R (Relax, Read & Review) which met at the Highland Co. Public Library in Leesburg, OH. Joan had been an active member of the Highland UMW and helped with meals for shut-ins.
She was a graduate of Wilmington High School and the cadet teaching program at Wilmington College. Throughout her years of teaching, Joan continued her education with classes from several area colleges and universities. She taught for 31 years, retiring in June, 1987.
Joan loved people and enjoyed helping others. She enjoyed traveling therefore she and Dick visited 38 states. She loved to cook and bake; especially for family get-togethers. Her family was her greatest treasure.
A memorial service under the direction of the EBRIGHT FUNERAL HOME, Frankfort, will be held, at 11a.m., Saturday, November 23, 2013 at the Clarksburg United Methodist Church, Clarksburg OH.
