Joanne Tuttle Hamman, 86, of Clarksburg died peacefully on September 6, 2012 at Marjorie P. Lee in Cincinnati.
Joanne was born on June 1, 1926, the same day as Marilyn Monroe, in Poland, Ohio to the late Hurd and Jennie (Scholl) Tuttle. She graduated from Youngstown Chaney High School in 1944.
Joanne attended Flora Stone Mather College for Women for two years before transferring to Ohio State University majoring in art. She met her husband, Robert M. Hamman, they were married on Feb. 15, 1948, then she became a farmer's wife. He died on December 4, 1968 She taught kindergarten from 1969-1972 at the Williamsport Methodist Church and taught at the Pioneer School from 1972-1976. She completed her college educations and graduated from Ohio University in 1976. She started her 20 year teaching career teaching 2nd grade at Frankfort Adena Primary school from 1976-1996.
After retirement she became an active volunteer at the Pump House Art Gallery in Chillicothe. She was a member of the Clarksburg Young Married Women's Club, a 4-H advisor for the Clarksburg Happy Homemakers, a member of the Clarksburg City Council and belonged to the Ross County Retired Teacher's Association.
Her hobbies were sewing., reading and enjoying her grandchildren. She made over 200 Raggedy Anns and Andys which she lovingly gave to family and area newborns. She considered herself blessed with such a good life and touched the lives of many people.
She is survived by daughters Jenny (Bob)Schmitz of Bexley Peggy (Chuck) Landes of Cincinnati and son Carl (Nancy ) Hamman of Mount Sterling , grandchildren Addy(Taft) Matney, Libby and Kirby Schmitz, Allison (Eric) Goodman, Philip Landes, Robert Hamman and Scott(Lauren ) Hamman, great grandchildren Trey Matney, Palmer and Maguire Goodman, niece and nephews Tom (Genny) Hamman, Andy (Cathy) Hamman, Bill Hamman, Gail ( Roger) Blevins and Gary(Linda) Goterba. 10 great nephews and 1 great niece, 4 great great nieces and 1 great great nephew.
Predeceased in death by sister Mary Goterba, brother-in- law Clarence Goterba , nephew Greg Goterba, brother and sister- in law George and Janie Hamman, niece in law April Hamman.
Funeral service will be held on Tuesday, September 11, 2012 at the Clarksburg United Methodist Church at 11 a.m. with Pastor Jerry Caddell officiating. Burial will follow at the Brown's Chapel Cemetery, Clarksburg . Friends may call at the EBRIGHT FUNERAL HOME, Frankfort on Monday, September 10, 2012 from 4-8 p.m.
