Joe B. Gordy, born May 18, 1935, formerly of Huber Heights and  Mechanicsburg, Ohio, died Wednesday, August 29, 2018 after a chronic illness. Born in Newton, Mississippi son of Johnnie and Cleo (Burnett) Gordy, Joe was a veteran of the Korean and Vietnam conflicts. He was employed by the USAF as Deputy Director B-52 Systems Program Office where he retired after 33 years of service.  He then was Configuration Manager for the Modular Automatic Test Equipment at AAI, Inc. in Maryland until 1992. He was also a Realtor in Clark and Montgomery counties for several years. Joe retired to his and his wife Phyllis’ tree farm in Bainbridge, OH., and became affiliated with the Ohio Forestry Association, (OFA), Southern Ohio Forestland Association (SOFA), and the Ohio Woodland Owners Association (OWOA).  He was chairman of the Ohio Tree Farm Committee in 2002 and served on many committees with regard to tree farming. He was also a member of the American Legion Post No. 14, Bainbridge, Ohio.

Joe was preceded in death by his wife, Phyllis Jean Gordy, parents, sister, Inez Parker, brothers Milton Gordy, John M. Gordy, George B. Gordy, Billy Ferrell Gordy, and step-son, Michael Anthony Usas.  

He is survived by his niece Marsheena Aslinger of Soddy Daisy, Tennessee, step sons Chip Usas of Three Rivers, CA., and John Robert Usas of Huber Heights, OH., sister-in-law, Martha Kirkland of Vandalia, Ohio and many other relatives and good friends.  Cremation and interment will be at the discretion of the family. Memorial donations may be made to the SOFA (ohioSofa.org) Camp Canopy scholarship fund.
