Garrett Curtis

June 16, 2008 — May 25, 2024

Circleville

John Garrett Curtis, 15, beloved son, brother, uncle, and friend, was called home on May 25, 2024. Born on June 16, 2008, in Chillicothe, Ohio, to Misty Wheeler and Joe Curtis, Garrett spent his life spreading laughter, showing love, and playing baseball.
Garrett had a heart full of love for family. He is survived by his parents, Misty (Danny Colter) Wheeler, and Angel Curtis; sisters, Rachel (Brendan) Graves, Kyalynn (Austin Tackett) Elder, Kayleigh Wheeler, Harley Curtis, and Madison (Tommy) Clark; and brothers, J.D. (Bailey) Robb, J.R. (Shay) Clark, and Landon Colter. In his death, Garrett was a superhero through his gift of life; in life, he was a superhero through his gift of love.  This was especially evident in the way he was adored by special nieces, Adalynn, Hadlee, and Ophelia; and nephews, Kayson, and Greyson. Garrett is also survived by a special childhood friend, Cameron Stoops.  Preceding him in death were his grandparents, John, Goldie, Gary, and Susie; and a precious nephew, Daxton.

Garrett was also preceded in death by his father, Joe Curtis, on May 22, 2024.  Garrett’s unwavering spirit held on to give his family the gift of saying goodbye and to offer the ultimate gift of organ donation. Both Garrett and Joe were known for their infectious humor and playful spirits. We find comfort in the belief that they are now reunited, with Joe preparing a place for his son in the next life, just as he always did in this one. Their bond, forged in laughter and love, will forever remain unbroken.

Garrett’s roots were at Adena Local Schools before transitioning to Logan Elm, where he was finishing his sophomore year and flourishing.  Garrett formed cherished friendships at both schools and his life has left a lasting impact on both communities, just as they both shaped him.

Garrett's dreams were fueled by the crack of the bat and the thrill of shutting down batters from the mound with his left arm. For eleven years, he poured his heart into the game, his sights set on the big leagues and a future where he could take care of his family. Baseball was his passion; his unwavering love for it was the only plan he ever needed.

Garrett was talented in so many ways, yet he remained remarkably humble. He loved to draw and paint, and though sometimes shy and quiet, his goofy nature could light up a room when he came out of his shell. He felt that it was an important rite of passage for every teenage boy to master the moonwalk and those sky-high Michael Jackson notes.

In keeping with his big heart and willingness to help anyone, Garrett's family is incredibly proud of his organ donation. Even in his passing, his generosity will continue to touch the lives of others. This selfless act reflects the very essence of Garrett – a young man who lived with a spirit that extended far beyond himself.  He is our real-life superhero.
