John “Messup” Davis 58 of Bainbridge went to his heavenly home 12:30 pm Monday, January 2, 2017. He was born September 20, 1958 in Bainbridge the son of the late Donald and Lillian Nelson Davis. On February 2, 1979 he married the former Ethel J. Mitchell, who survives.
He is also survived by his children, Donny Davis and Amanda (Matt) Olaker; grandchildren, De’shawn, Khamron Malique and Kyliyah Davis; sisters, Doralee Hairston, Sandra Garnes and Faith Barnes; half-brother, Ray McCaulley; and several close family and friends.
In addition to his parents he was predeceased by sisters, Sylvia Scott and Donna Ford.
John was a lifelong volunteer of the Bainbridge Fire Dept. where he served as chief for 4 years. He worked as a Bainbridge Police officer for 4 years before he started with ODOT, where he retired after 28 years. He was also a member of the Bainbridge United Methodist and the sons of American Legion Post 14. John also had served as a Coach in the PVYL for many years. He loved his college teams always supporting the Michigan Wolverines in football and the Kentucky Wildcats in Basketball. John enjoyed camping and supporting his friends in drag racing but he loved to detail cars.
Funeral services will be 2 pm Saturday, January 7, 2017 at the Bainbridge United Methodist Church with Pastor Matt Brookes officiating. Burial will follow in the Bainbridge Cemetery. Friends may visit with Messup’s family from 11 am until the time of service Saturday. The SMITH-MOORE-EBRIGHT Funeral Home, Bainbridge is serving the family.
In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the funeral home to assist the family with expenses.
