Johnie D. Smith

Johnie D. Smith, of Frankfort, died on Monday evening, August 12, 2024, at his home. He was born on Friday, May 10, 1940, in Matewan, West Virginia, a son of Howard and Bessie Massie Smith-Plasters. He married the former Connie Lou Marcum, and she preceded him in death on December 16, 2023.

Surviving Johnie are his three sons, Johnny (Rebecca J.) Smith II of Columbus, Michael L. Smith of Frankfort, and Todd (Robbie) Smith of Frankfort, numerous grandchildren and great-grandchildren, and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, one daughter, Vicki Lynn Smith, one daughter-in-law, Lori Jo Smith, three sisters, Evelyn Newton, Marjorie Thompson, Wilma J. Finley, six brothers, Jeff Smith, Charles Smith, Harold Smith, Homer Smith, Warren Smith, and Harry Smith.

Johnnie worked hard all his life so that he could take care of his family. He enjoyed the many years that he worked as a Red Coat at several sporting and special events at The Ohio State University.

A graveside service for Johnie will be held on Friday, August 16, 2024, at 11:00 am at Glen Rest Memorial Estate, Reynoldsburg. No calling hours will be held. The EBRIGHT FUNERAL HOME, Frankfort is serving the family. Those wishing to share a memory of Johnie may sign his online register.
