Loren K. Goen, 92, of Columbus, formerly of Frankfort, died at 6:35 p.m. on Tuesday, August 26, 2014 at the Riverside Methodist Hospital, Columbus. He was born on March 31, 1922 in Frankfort the son of the late Charles and Sadie Loel Goen. On November 2, 1948 he married the former Daphness I. Whitt and she preceded him in death on April 10, 2010.
He is survived by his children; Judy Spring and Scott (Barbara) Goen, both of Columbus, grandchildren; Christine Spring, Dayna Goen, Justin (Kristen) Goen, great-grandchildren; Anthony, Ryan, Trey, and Zach Goen. Preceding him in death were two brothers; Dick and Gene Goen.
Loren was a 1940 graduate of Frankfort High School where he enjoyed playing sports. He was a veteran of the United States Army Air Corp., where he served during World War II. Loren enjoyed the time he spent working on his farm. In 1975, after 27 years, he retired as lieutenant of the Columbus Fire Department. He was a member of the Frankfort United Methodist Church, a former member of the Crestview Presbyterian Church of Columbus, the Ohio Farm Bureau, and former and charter member of the Frankfort Lions Club, the Tie Club, and he was an avid bridge player. Loren enjoyed the reunions with the 316th Troop Carriers, 45th Squadron.
A funeral service will be held on Saturday, August 30, 2014 at 11 a.m. in the Frankfort United Methodist Church with Pastor Neil Foster officiating. Burial will follow in Greenlawn Cemetery, Frankfort where military honors will be accorded by the Joseph Ellsworth White Post 483 Frankfort American Legion. Friends may visit with the Goen family from 5 to 7p.m. on Friday, August 29, in the EBRIGHT FUNERAL HOME, Frankfort.
