Lowell Allen Ralston, 97, of Greenfield, died on Friday morning, July 8, 2022, at the Edgewood Manor of Greenfield. He was born on Wednesday, April 20, 1925, in Peebles, Ohio, the son of the late Harry and Edith Woods Ralston. Lowell is survived by his wife, the former Beverly Boyd whom he married on September 23, 1978.
He is also survived by a granddaughter, Lynn Blasius and one step granddaughter, Tonya McMillan. a friend and his brother-in-law, John Boyd. Lowell was preceded in death by his two daughters, Theresa Newfeld and Patricia Blasius
Lowell attended Sinking Spring High School. He volunteered in WWII as a Navy Seaman First Class March 1943 and was Honorably discharged on January 2, 1946. Lowell was in Tamforth, south of San Francisco for Cub 15 unit where he was trained to go onto on an island to take care of communication.
His unit was sent to Okinawa and on the way, there was a typhoon lasting three days at 165 mph. When the storm was over, they went topside, and everything was gone. Most of the ships were destroyed. When Lowell was discharged January 2, 1946, and he worked at the Waddell Company making show cases. In 1954 he worked at Standard Oil for 10 years. Lowell bought the Pure Oil station in Greenfield in 1962 and retired December 8, 1988. He was active in different churches over the years. He taught a Men’s Sunday School Class and filled in for Wednesday Prayer and Bible Study.
A funeral service will be held on Wednesday, July 13, 2022, at 1 p.m. at the ANDERSON-EBRIGHT FUNERAL HOME, Greenfield with Pastor Roger Newkirk officiating. Following the service, Lowell will be laid to rest in the Barnes Cemetery, near Hillsboro. Military honors will be accorded by the Highland County Honor Guard. Visitation will be held on Wednesday from 11 a.m. until the time of the service. In lieu of flowers, Beverly requests that memorial contributions be sent to Adena Hospice 2077 Western Ave., Chillicothe, OH 45601.
