M. Deane Carter, 93, of Frankfort, died at 12:30a.m. on Monday, September 22, 2014, at his home. He was born on October 5, 1920 in Highland County OH, the son of the late Charles H. and Helen Brown Carter. His wife, the former Martha Pugh, was the mother of his children and she preceded him in death. On December 18, 1994, he married the former, Edna Oyer Richter, who survives.
Also surviving are his children, Marilee (Dan) White of Fayetteville NC, and Dennis D. (Chris) Carter of Cincinnati, seven grandchildren, Martha (Alex) Rodger, Benjamin (Mandy) White, Hannah Carter, Joshua White, Emrey Carter, Andrew White and Rebecca White, two great-grandchildren, Leona and Hansen Rodger, one sister, Ruth Glandon, two brothers, Joe Carter and Norman (Barb) Carter, all of Frankfort, and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by one sister, Jane Smith, and three brothers, Charles, Robert, and John Carter.
Deane was a 1938 graduate of Frankfort High School, and served as sergeant in the United States Army Air Corps during World War II. In 1952 Deane opened Carter Feed & Grain, Frankfort, which he and his family operated for 32 years. He was an active member on many boards of the Chillicothe First Wesleyan Church for over 70 years, having joined in 1938. Deane was a charter member of the Frankfort Lions Club, and was a dedicated member of The Gideons International. He was a member of the Joseph Ellsworth White Post 483 Frankfort American Legion, where he held the post of Chaplain for over 30 years. Deane retired as a bus driver for Pioneer School and spent many years helping at the Ebright Funeral Home, Frankfort.
A funeral service will be held on Saturday, September 27, 2014 at 10 a.m. in the Chillicothe First Wesleyan Church, Chillicothe with Rev. Dr. Daniel K. White and Rev. Fred Fox officiating. Burial will follow in the Greenlawn Cemetery, Frankfort where military honors will be accorded by the Joseph Ellsworth White Post 483 Frankfort American Legion. Friends can visit with the Carter family on Friday from 5 to 8 p.m. in the EBRIGHT FUNERAL HOME, Frankfort.
