Margaret Elizabeth Uhl Hays, 96, of Greenfield, passed away at her home at 1:25p.m. Wednesday, February 4, 2015. She was born March 19, 1918 in Greenfield, the daughter of the late Charles M. and Gertrude Meiners Uhl. On December 29, 1940 she married Loren R. "Red" Hays who preceded her in death on October 3, 1962.
She is survived by three daughters: Ann Marie (Ronald) Gunderman of Washington Court House, Carolyn (Heinz) Knackstedt of Centerville and Patricia Hays of Gallipolis. Two sons: Michael Hays and Patrick (Elaine) Hays all of Greenfield. Seven grandchildren: Theresa (Rusty) Staten, Jeffrey Hadley, Brent (Jacquie) Knackstedt, Beth Anne (David) Taschuk, Angela (Brian Preston) Hays, Katie (Mark) Paugh and Bradley (Amanda) Hays. Twelve great- grandchildren and two great-great grandchildren. One brother: Wm. G. (Cynthia) Uhl of Dayton.
Margaret is preceded in death by husband, both parents, 1 brother: Charles M. Uhl, Jr., three sisters: Mary G. Uhl, Collette Uhl Cope and Therese "Sissy" Uhl Shayne.
Margaret was a 1936 graduate of the Edward Lee McClain High School. She founded the Anderson-Uhl-Hays Agency with her sister Mary and son Patrick in 1973. Margaret was a lifetime member of St. Benignus Catholic Church of Greenfield and at the time of her death she was the oldest member. She was a charter member of the St. Benignus Ladies Auxiliary. Margaret was an award winning artist and a former member of the Leesburg Brush and Pallet Art Guild.
Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Saturday, February 7, 2015 at 11a.m. in St. Benignus Catholic Church, Greenfield, concelebrated by Father Michael Paraniuk and Msg. Bill Meyers. Burial will follow in St. Joseph Catholic Cemetery, Greenfield. Friends may visit with the Hays family on Friday, February 6, 2015 from 5-8p.m. at St. Benignus Catholic Church. Rosary will be prayed Friday at 8.pm. Memorial contributions may be made to St. Benignus Catholic Church, P.O. Box 399, Greenfield, Ohio 45123. The ANDERSON-EBRIGHT FUNERAL HOME of Greenfield is serving the family.
