Michael L. Garman, 67, of Greenfield, died at 8 p.m. on Wednesday, October 1, 2014 at his home. He was born in Portsmouth OH on December 27, 1946, the son of Dane M. and Jewell E. Thompson Garman.
He is survived by his mother, Jewell, of Greenfield, brother Greg (Robin) Garman of Greenfield, nephews, Bryce (Sarah) Garman of Greenville SC, Cale (Leslie) Garman of Wilmington, Adam (Amy) Garman of Frankfort, great-nieces, Isabel, Claire and Elisabeth Garman of Wilmington, great-nephew, Banks Garman of Greenville SC, and a special friend, Alice Black of Greenfield. Michael was preceded in death by his father, Dane, in 2012.
Michael attended Hilliard High School, and was a US Marine Corps veteran, having served for 25 months in the Vietnam War. He worked as a mechanic at Garman Feed Supply in South Salem, and retired in 2012. Michael was a member of the Bainbridge American Legion Post 14, and a lifetime member of both the Greenfield VFW Post 4736 and the Greenfield Eagles Post 1325. He was a former grand marshal of the Eagles Christmas parade, loved playing card games like Tonk and Euchre, and was a voracious reader. He was, possibly, the best customer of the Greenfield Public Library.
In keeping with Michael's wishes, cremation has taken place. Friends are invited to gather in the South Salem Cemetery for a graveside service at 11a.m. on Saturday, October 11, 2014, where an Eagles service will be held. Memorial contributions are suggested to the Fayette County Hospice 222 N. Oakland Ave Washington Court House, OH 43160, or the Greenfield Eagles, 1275 N. Washington St., Greenfield OH 45123.
