Phil Caplinger, 90, of Washington Court House, died at 8:34p.m. on Saturday, April 5, 2014 at Mount Carmel West Medical Center, Columbus. He was born on April 9, 1923 in Bainbridge OH, the son of the late David and Josie Long Caplinger. On October 14, 1943 he married the former Betty Lou Yinger, who preceded him in death on January 7, 2001.
He is survived by several nieces and nephews, including Marlene Stewart and Layla Haddox, who Phil and Betty raised, and a special friend, Pauline Dyer of Washington Court House. He was preceded in death by seven brothers and four sisters.
Phil worked as a conductor for DT&I Railroad, and served in the United States Navy during World War II. He was a member of the VFW Post 3762 of Washington C.H., the Paul Hughey Post 25 American Legion of Washington C.H., and the Fayette Eagles Aerie #423 of Washington C.H..
Friends may visit with the Caplinger family on Thursday, April 10, 2014 from 11a.m. until 12:45p.m. in the EBRIGHT FUNERAL HOME, Frankfort. A graveside service will immediately follow in the Greenlawn Cemetery, Frankfort, with Rev. Jason Yoakum officiating. Military honors will be accorded by the Fayette County Honor Guard. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions are suggested to the Ebright Funeral Home, PO Box 264, Frankfort OH 45628, to assist the family with expenses.
