Phyllis J. Gordy, (P.J.) (nee SPITZIG) 1929 - 2018, Bainbridge, OH. Formerly of Huber Heights, OH., passed through the veil peacefully at her home on Sunday, July 1, following a brief illness. Phyllis lived in the Dayton area most of her life. She was a graduate of Kiser High School in Old North Dayton and was a member of the Class of '47 Alumni Committee. She was a retired real estate broker and former member of the Dayton Area Board of Realtors, also the Bonded Realty Board.
After her retirement, she moved to her and her husband, Joe's tree farm in Ross County where she then became affiliated with forestry organizations – the Southern Ohio Forestland Association, (SOFA), Ohio Woodland Owners Association (OWOA), and the Ohio Forestry Association, (OFA). She was newsletter editor of the SOFA newsletter for many years and served on the executive committee until her death. She was also a member of the American Legion Auxiliary Post #14, Bainbridge, OH.
Phyllis loved animals, nature, wildlife and music. She was a landscape artist, a letter-writer, and storyteller. Phyllis was preceded in death by her father, John Frank Spitzig, her mother, Gertrude Elizabeth (Donnersbach) Spitzig, and her beloved son, Michael Anthony Usas. Phyllis is survived by her husband, Joe B. Gordy, cherished sons Anthony Paul ("Chip") Usas of Three Rivers, California, and John Robert Usas of Huber Heights, Ohio; his special friend Bonnie Papini., her loving sister, Martha A. Kirkland of Vandalia, niece Marsheena Aslinger, of Soddy Daisy, Tennessee, special friends Janie Kelly, Sandy Hamilton, Ramie and Betsy Pierson; and many other dear relatives and friends.
Cremation and interment will be at the discretion of the family. If desired, contributions may be made to the American Heart Association or the Ross County Humane Society in Phyllis's memory.
