Richard Eugene “Dick” Freeman 89 of Chillicothe passed from this life Saturday, October 22, 2022, at his home. He was born Sunday, October 8, 1933, in Ross County, the son of the late Ora and Mildred Heskett Freeman.
Dick is survived by his longtime companion Connie L. Long; his daughter Cindy Coldiron; grandchildren Miranda (Josh) Cox, Cyle Long, Nathaniel Taylor Joseph Freeman, Mia Shae Claytor, Alyssa (Dustin) Farmer and Aaron Claytor; great grandchildren Xayland Cox, Gage Cox, Tanner Cox, Sutton Mathews, Allanah Farmer and Grayson Smith; great great grandson Cash Cox; niece Laura Miller; nephew Tim Freeman; a special niece Patsy Barrows-Wise; a special family friend Gerald Sexton; and his dog Trouble.
In addition to his parents Dick was preceded in death by his son John Freeman; daughter Michelle Missy Claytor; son-in-law Tim Coldiron; an infant brother and 2 sisters.
Dick was a 1953 graduate of Chillicothe High School. After high school he enlisted in the Army, when he returned home, he started working for the B&O Railroad. He would later work for Chilpaco where he retired after 20 plus years. Dick was a lifetime member and past Commander of the VFW Post 108 of Chillicothe. Through the years he liked to play on the Chilpaco softball team, coach little league, ride his bicycle and gardening. Dick was an avid sports fan, and his favorite teams were the Buckeyes, the Reds and the Browns.
Graveside services will be held 2 pm Thursday, October 27, 2022, in the Twin Cemetery with Rev. Roger Webb officiating. A military graveside service will be conducted by the Ross County Honor Guard. There will be no calling hours observed. The Smith-Moore-Ebright Funeral Home of Bainbridge is serving the family.
