Richard M. Garrison, 88, of Frankfort died at 5:10 P.M., on Saturday, January 19, 2013 at his home.
Richard was born April 28, 1924 the next to the youngest of six children to Edward M. Garrison and Leah Crabb Garrison. He is survived by one sister; Eloise G. Jones Riccobono. He was preceded in death by his parents, three brothers; Harold Kenneth Garrison, Lewis Albon Garrison, Ward Crabb "Hoot" Garrison, one sister; Dorothy G. Salt.
On December 9, 1942 Jack Ater, Howard Bryant, and Richard volunteered for the draft. On February 26, 1943 he was a senior in high school and was inducted into the United States Army. He received the Purple Heart and three Campaign Stars. Richard was very proud of his service.
In the school years of 1939 and 1940 Rosemary Hoffman moved to Clarksburg. She was in the eighth grade and Richard thought she was the prettiest girl in school. They had a date before he went into service in 1943, but no more until 1945. On February 2, 1946 Rosemary and Richard we married in Greenup, Kentucky and they had 62 years together before her death in April 8, 2008. Rosemary and Richard had a good life with two wonderful children; Myron K and Janis S. Colvin, three wonderful grandchildren; Richard W. Garrison, Ryan C. Colvin, and Kerri Lynn Colvin who died at the age of seventeen but Richard thought of her every day of his life. Kerri's father, Steve Colvin, also proceeded Richard in death on March 5, 2012. Four of the sweetest great grandchildren; Courtney Beth Garrison, Hope K. Garrison, Brooks Anthony Colvin, and Georgia Rosemary Colvin.
Richard was a member of the American Legion Post 483 and Disabled American Veterans, He was a 50 year member of the F&AM Frankfort Lodge #309. He was also a member of the Ancient Accepted Scottish Rite Bodies in the Valley of Cincinnati, Farm Bureau, Public Employee Retirees, Inc, the U.S. Trotting Association, and the Ohio Harness Horseman's Association.
Funeral service will be held on Thursday, January 24 2013 at 1 P.M. in the EBRIGHT FUNERAL HOME, Frankfort with Rev. Michael Wright officiating. Burial will follow in the Brown's Chapel Cemetery, Clarksbug where military honors will be accorded by the Frankfort American Legion. Friends may call at the funeral home on Wednesday from 5-8 P.M. where a Masonic Service will be held at 7:45 P.M.. Memorial contributions are suggested to In Care Hospice, 681 E.
