Roger D. Hammond, 73, of Frankfort, died on Thursday morning, September 1, 2016 while camping at Paint Creek State Park Campgrounds. He was born on September 29, 1942 in Ross County, OH the son of the late Oscar W. and Margaret R. Garrison Hammond. On December 16, 1969 he married the former Ramona Gilmore, and she survives.
Also surviving are his two children, Aaron Hammond of Jeffersonville and Emily (Josh) Preston of Nashville, TN, two grandchildren, Katelyn and Holden Preston, and several cousins and their families.
Roger was a 1961 graduate of the Frankfort High School. He was a U.S. Army veteran of the Vietnam War, and a member of the Joseph Ellsworth White Post 483 American Legion. Roger retired from maintenance at DuPont Chemical, Circleville. He also retired from the Ohio Department of Natural Resources, where he mowed at Paint Creek and Rocky Fork State Parks. Roger loved camping and wintering in Florida. He developed many friendships in his years of camping. His knowledge will be missed by those he shared it with at Harper’s Garage.
Friends may gather for a funeral service at 11am on Tuesday, September 6, 2016 in the EBRIGHT FUNERAL HOME, Frankfort with Pastor John L. Watson officiating. Burial will follow in Greenlawn Cemetery, Frankfort where military honors will be accorded by the Joseph Ellsworth White Post 483 American Legion. In keeping with Roger’s wishes no calling hours will be observed. Memorial contributions are suggested to the Joseph Ellsworth White Post 483, PO Box 4, Frankfort, OH 45628.
