Sammy Kay Junk, 79, of Chillicothe, died at 6:58 a.m. on Thursday, August 2, 2018 at Mount Carmel East Hospice Hospital, Columbus, after a lengthy illness. He was born on June 9, 1939, in Chillicothe, the son of the late Fay Thomas and Blanche Dick Junk. On June 13, 1984, he married the former Jacqueline Kay Randle, who survives.
In addition to his wife, Sammy is survived by three sons, David Lee (Lori) Junk of Mt. Perry, Steven Michael (Jessica) Junk of Pickerington, Christopher Randle (Lauren) Junk of Brecksville OH, five grandchildren, Jonathan D. Junk, Sarah A. Junk, Mason P. Rawson, Audrianna M. Junk, Jameson M. Junk, one brother, David Lee (Frances) Junk of Washington Court House, many nieces, nephews, and cousins, including, special niece, Jill (Al) Cory Smith, special nephew, John David (Lynn) Cory, and his beloved Blue Heeler, Missy. Sammy was preceded in death by three sisters, Nancy Warner, Joanne Cory, and Sarah Jane Cardi, and six brothers, John Albert, Robert F., Thomas, Harry, Ralph D., and Neil Junk.
Sammy was a 1957 graduate of Frankfort High School. He attended Ohio University, where he played baseball. He was an All-Ohio in baseball and football at Frankfort High School. Sam loved going to thoroughbred and standardbred horse races and loved golf. He retired from Kenworth Truck Co., and Chillicothe Adena Hospital. He liked working outdoors and cutting firewood. Sammy was a member of Chillicothe First Presbyterian Church, where he served as an usher, an elder, and a member of the children’s clothing bank.
A funeral service will be held at 11a.m. on Monday, August 6, 2018, in the EBRIGHT FUNERAL HOME, Frankfort with Rev. Dr. Jason Link officiating. Burial will follow in Greenlawn Cemetery, Frankfort. Friends are invited to visit with the Junk family at the funeral home on Sunday evening, from 5 to 8 p.m. Memorial contributions are suggested to the Beth Junk Memorial Scholarship at Mount Carmel Foundation, School of Nursing, 6150 E.
