Terry D. Hanson, 68, of Greenfield, died at 7:14 a.m. on Saturday, July 11, 2015 at Hearth and Care of Greenfield. He was born in Columbus, Ohio on September 8, 1946 the son of the late Henry S. and Francis L. Shaw Hanson Jr. On December 24, 1967 he married the former Kathryn L. "Katy" Kinzer who survives.
Also surviving are his son and daughter in-law; Bart A. and Heather D. Hanson of Leesburg, two grandchildren; Wyatt and Julia Durbin both of Leesburg; one sister; Daralene (Dick) Bowman of Huntington, IN; one brother; Mike Dennis; nieces; Shantiel Fulton and her daughter Mariah, Racquel (Nathan) Mills and their children Courtney and Austin, and Danielle (Chris) Line and their children ShaShawna and Gabrielle, Aaraka (Tommy) Case and their children Megan, Kelsey, Cody and J.T., Ashley (Peter) Hanson-Delaney, Andrea (Brandon) Hanson-Halselby and daughter Avery all of Huntington, IN, Toby Dennis-Cox and her daughter Pyton of Chillicothe, Hidy (Heath) Dennis-Colburn and daughters Haylyn and Hadley of Frankfort, special family friends; Amy Evans and James Cullwell and sons Jameson, Aaron and daughter Alison of Washington Court House.
He was preceded in death by his father and mother in-law; Jack and Marie Hunter, grandparents; Henry S. and Louise Hanson Sr.; father; Henry S. and stepmother; Vivian Hanson Jr., grandparents; Fred and Mary Shaw; brother; Darvin Hanson, mother; Francis L. Dennis, uncle and aunt; Homer and Betty Shaw, aunt; Donna Morris; and his best friend and buddy for so many years "Ranger" his Doberman Pincher who will be buried with him.
Terry lived for fifty years in the Greenfield and Hillsboro areas. He lived until the age of eleven in Delaware, Ohio. He also lived in Indianapolis, IN and Wellston, Ohio. He was a 1965 graduate of The Edward Lee McClain High School. He served during the Vietnam War where he was a sergeant with the 7350th US Air Force Security Forces stationed at Templehof Airport, Berlin, Germany and with the 436th US Air Force Security Air Forces stationed at Dover Air Force Base, Dover, Delaware. He was a fire fighter for the City of Greenfield. In 1985 he was promoted to the rank of Assistant Chief and held that position until he retired in September 18, 1994. He was the training officer, arson investigator and a state certified fire safety inspector for the department. Terry was past president of the Highland County Fire Fighter's Association.
Funeral service will be held on Wednesday, July 15, 2015 at 11:00 a.m. in the ANDERSON-EBRIGHT FUNERAL HOME, Greenfield, with Pastor Mark Current officiating. Burial will follow in the Greenfield Cemetery where military honors will be accorded by the Concerned Veterans of Greenfield. Friends may visit with Terry's family at the funeral home on Tuesday from 4-8 p.m. Memorial contributions are suggested to The Paint Creek Joint Fire and EMS District or Hospice of Fayette County.
