THE VISITATION FOR VERLLA HAS BEEN RESCHEDULED FOR SATURDAY, AUGUST 21, 2021 FROM 11 TO 2 PM IN THE EBRIGHT FUNERAL HOME, FRANKFORT
Verlla Elizabeth Mitchell Graham, age 96 years and 363 days, of Clarksburg, died at 2:10 a.m. on Monday, August 2, 2021, at her home. She was born on Monday, August 4, 1924, in Houston, Texas, the daughter of the late Lacy Todd and Mary Elizabeth Albritton Mitchell. Verlla met the love of her life, Solon L. Graham, on a blind date in Houston, Texas. They were married on May 3, 1952, and they shared their life together for sixty-seven years. Solon preceded her in death on July 21, 2019.
She is survived by their three children, David M. Graham of Clarksburg and his fiancé, Barbara Hastings, Paul B. (Anne Scaperoth) Graham of Worthington and Mark W. Graham of Wooster, two grandchildren, Caleb G. (Sarah) Graham and Julia A. (Duke) Leisure, five great grandchildren, Ally, Hoyt, Mack, Case and Emry. Verlla loved her family, all the Arts, nature, history, and she had a lifelong love of learning.
Verlla was a 1941 graduate of Regan High School in Houston, TX. She then attended the Houston Business College, the University of Houston and she received her Bachelor’s Degree in Library Science in 1985 from Ohio Dominican College. She was a member of Delta Kappa Gamma. Before moving to Ohio, Verlla worked for the Houston Oil Company, the Geology Department at the University of Houston, and the Houston Museum of Natural History.
Verlla was Librarian for many years at the Adena Elementary and Junior High School in Clarksburg. She was an integral part of the school and the community by serving on many community projects. She was a member of the Clarksburg United Methodist Church. She was active in the American Field Service (AFS) at Adena High School, the Adena Education Association, Clarksburg Alumni Association, Ross County Fair Home Arts Building where she worked in the antique department and served as superintendent, the Clarksburg Halloween Parade and she was a Charter Member of the Adena Area Concert Series.
The family is honoring Verlla’s wish and she will be cremated. At the convenience of the family, Verlla will be laid to rest next to Solon in Brown’s Chapel Cemetery, Clarksburg.
